How to change your child's name
To change your child's name by deed poll you need to fill out an application form – this can be done securely online, by phone or by post.
Once we have the required details, we will prepare and fully certify your child’s deed poll so that it can be delivered directly to you. Only to people who have parental responsibility for your child need to sign their deed, which needs to be done in the presence of a witness - it is then legal and ready to use straight away.
The witness can be anyone over the age of 18 who is not related to your child and who does not live with them. The witness does not need to be a professional person, therefore, there is no need to pay a doctor or someone similar to witness you signing your child’s deed - a friend or neighbour can do this for you.
A solicitor is NOT required to prepare, sign or authenticate your child’s deed poll. We fully certify every deed we prepare to confirm that they are true originals which have been prepared by us.
The deed polls we provide are accepted by The Identity & Passport Service and The DVLA.
